 Introduction

One hidden feature that aids in this process is the "Show Amounts" option in General Ledger Setup. This functionality provides users with the flexibility to tailor the display of financial information in journals and ledger entries according to their specific needs. In this article, we will explore the steps to access and configure this option, shedding light on its significance in fostering a more streamlined financial management process.

Accessing General Ledger Setup

To begin configuring the "Show Amounts" option, navigate to the General Ledger Setup.

General Ledger Setup

Once in the General Ledger Setup, choose the "Show more" option in the General tab. This will reveal a set of customizable features, including the pivotal "Show Amounts" setting.

Show Amounts Options

The "Show Amounts" setting offers three distinct options: "Amount Only," "Debit/Credit Only," and "All Amounts." Let's delve into the details of each:

  • Amount Only: Description: Displays the Amount and Amount (LCY) fields in Journals and Ledger Entries windows. Application: Ideal for those who prefer a simplified view of financial data.

  • Debit/Credit Only: Description: Exhibits the Debit Amount, Debit Amount (LCY), Credit Amount, and Credit Amount (LCY) fields. Application: Suited for users who require a more detailed breakdown of debit and credit amounts.

  • All Amounts: Description: Shows all available amount fields, providing a comprehensive view of financial data. Application: Useful for those who need a detailed, comprehensive overview of financial transactions.

Tooltip Explanation

The tooltip associated with the "Show Amounts" field clarifies the purpose of each option, aiding users in making informed choices based on their specific reporting needs.

Special Note for General Journals

It's crucial to note that the "Show Amounts" setting on the General Journals page is only applicable in "Show More Columns" mode, ensuring that users can fully leverage this feature when needed. In the Screenshot that is attached under, you can see that Show More Column is not enabled so you can see that even in the "General Ledger Setup" the field is set to the "All Amounts", still I cannot see the all fields explained above in "All Amounts".

Conclusion

In conclusion, the "Show Amounts" option in General Ledger Setup empowers users to tailor their financial data display. By understanding and configuring this feature, organizations can ensure that their financial reporting aligns seamlessly with their operational requirements. Whether opting for a simplified view or a detailed breakdown, the flexibility provided by "Show Amounts" contributes to a more user-friendly and intuitive financial management experience.
